T103505C is the first red one we've seen! I wonder if it was an unpopular premium upsell

One of the next things on the list is to add some leaderboards, at which point I was thinking we might need some rules. The three on my mind are
1. No automated photo capture
2. No spawn-camping
3. Don't do anything unsafe or illegal

Nice! Maybe we give credit to the Bronx so you can submit it and I'll add another category for out of the city

Amber did actually get both pictures, the SMS bot just got mixed up

this plate showed up in the database today. you must have caught it as soon as it hit the streets! try again to submit it when you get a chance

That's about as clear as it gets. You are entitled to a verified sighting. I'll see if it shows up in the TLC data tomorrow, and if not ... ponder what to do in this scenario

oh, interesting! our TLC data updates nightly. I just confirmed that it ran successfully last night and that T744873С is not in the table. Maybe the real world is leading the digital.

Was it a clear picture? Want to share it here?

Yes! we're thinking
- a modal for each vehicle with sighting records and picture(s)
- a leaderboard by contributor and by borough
- a form to submit new sightings if that's easier than SMS for some folks
January 7, 2026 at 4:07 PM
and of course, there are 2,053 left to find, so

1. Save this number to your phone
623-263-4638 (OCEAN-FIND-8)
2. keep your eyes peeled for 🌊 and grab a pic
3. text it in and get on the leaderboard
....
4 profit!

we'll be rolling out some updates in the next few days to
* make the SMS bot more robust and quicker
* update the bsky posts to make more sense with many contributors

and hopefully start to experiment with
* a simple browsable web version of the collection
* a web submission form

most importantly, we've got a growing crew of folks playing the game!

Yeah, I need to tweak the language. The second one was me, but I didn't want to thank myself every day.

Glad you're having fun! Let me know if you've got any ideas for making it easier or getting more people in

We would love shout-outs and pictures from other places as encouragement for the NYC project. For "official" scorekeeping, we're only trying to track and catalog sightings of the NYC TLC-registered Oceans. 2,120 to find is plenty!
