I really enjoyed Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama Jay Kelly (2025). George Clooney is a real movie star with charm and heart, who lets Jay be a selfish jerk. Adam Sandler steals all of his scenes with a heartfelt performance. Beautifully shot and lit. It’s the A Real Pain of 2025.

Oh. What. Fun. (2025) is a pretty cute Christmas comedy. Felicity Jones and Michelle Pfeiffer really carry the heart of the film. I like that it’s about appreciating your mom during the holidays. Dominic Sessa & Havana Rose Liu are a great pair here. Loved seeing Joan Chen.

Zootopia 2 (2025) is super cute, funny, colorful, and creative. I most appreciate them writing another interesting mystery for Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde to solve together. Ke Huy Quan’s lovable blue snake is my favorite part. It was cool to hear David Strathairn as Lynxley too!

I adored Eternity (2025) in theaters! It’s hilarious, fast, creative, original, thoughtful, & tender. Elizabeth Olsen is gorgeous, endearing, funny, and romantic as the heroine who must choose her forever husband. Miles Teller & Callum Turner are both moving. Rom-com of the year!

Left-Handed Girl (2025) is mind blowing. Instantly one of the greatest films of the year. Shih-Ching Tsou’s direction is fascinating, creative, and gripping. It’s both a hilarious and heartbreaking picture. Taiwanese actresses Janel Tsai, Shin Yuan Ma, & Nina Ye are fantastic!

I finished Stranger Things Season 5. Volume 1 is so boring, slow, & disappointing. Hideous CGI green screens, bland acting, no suspense, little horror, & awful writing that changes most characters’ personalities. I only care about Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, & Max now. What a bummer.

I loved Mark Pellington’s indie comedy-drama The Last Word (2017)! Amanda Seyfried is so funny as this kind obituary writer just trying her best. Shirley MacLaine a wildly funny performance as this cruel old Scrooge type, who wants to change her legacy at the last minute.

I liked Clint Bentley’s pensive indie drama Train Dreams (2025) on Netflix. Joel Edgerton is subtle and touching as this sad logger going through life. It’s beautifully shot and has a lovely piano score. Felicity Jones & Kerry Condon give it warmth, hope, love, and life too.

Rental Family (2025) is my new favorite film of the year. The sweet hero played by a lovable and sensitive Brendan Fraser. Mari Yamamoto is so wonderful. Hikari’s thoughtful script, breathtaking direction, & moving story are to die for here. Cutest movie since CODA. A must see!

I really loved John Ford’s romantic comedy-drama The Quiet Man (1952). Ireland looks so beautiful and Victor Young’s score is lovely. John Wayne gives one of his most subtle and likable performance. Maureen O’Hara’s fiery love interest is wonderful alongside Wayne. Funny & sweet.

I loved Mermaids (1990)! This is one of the funniest comedy-dramas I’ve ever seen. One of Winona Ryder’s greatest performances too. Cher is a riot. Bob Hoskins is at his sweetest here too. What a fantastic film. How have I never watched Mermaids before?

I revisited Darren Aronofsky’s crime comedy Caught Stealing (2025). It’s still a top 5 film of the year for me. So funny with a gripping performance from Austin Butler. Glad to now own it on 4K.

I revisited Andrew Fleming’s comedy mystery Nancy Drew (2007). It’s so funny. Emma Roberts is adorable as teenager sleuth Nancy Drew. The preppy costumes and 2000s soundtrack are delightful.

I loved John Badham’s romantic action-comedy Bird on a Wire (1990). Goldie Hawn is so effortlessly funny and stunning. She’s a blast in yet another wonderful comedy. Mel Gibson is going insanely hard in a goofy performance.

I liked Richard Linklater’s comedy-drama Nouvelle Vague (2025) that shows how Jean-Luc Godard directed his French New Wave classic film Breathless. It’s amusing and thought provoking. Zoey Deutch is delightful as actress Jean Severn with nice French speaking. It’s a solid film.

I am pleasantly surprised by this hilarious rom-com Good Advice (2001). Charlie Sheen has rarely been this charming & sincere writing a woman’s advice column. Angie Harmon is very nice as Sheen’s love interest & boss. Denise Richards, Rosanna Arquette, & Jon Lovitz are so funny.

I really enjoyed Jean-Luc Godard’s French New Wave crime drama Breathless (1960). Jean-Paul Belmondo’s chain smoking car thief cynic and Jean Seberg’s charming upbeat girlfriend are delightful. It’s quite creative, thoughtful, cool, funny, and striking.

The Naked Gun (2025) is super funny! Liam Neeson & Pamela Anderson doing dry humor insanely well. All the background gags are as funny as the verbals puns. What a blast.

Foul Play (1978) is hilarious with a wonderful lead role for Goldie Hawn. Burgess Meredith is funny as her protective landlord. The whole plot is a crazy send up of Hitchcock, film noir, and espionage thrillers. What a delightful film.

I loved Wildcats (1986)! It’s a super funny & progressive sports comedy. Goldie Hawn is a riot. It’s like Hoosiers, Coach Carter, Dangerous Minds, & Remember the Titans all in one. Crazy to see Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, Mykelti Williamson, & LL Cool J all in the same film.
November 11, 2025 at 1:32 AM
I loved revisiting the war comedy Private Benjamin (1980)! Goldie Hawn is hilarious as wayward woman Judy Benjamin, who joins the army. It’s so clever with a very fresh script. Toni Kalem is a wonderful as the tough Private Gianelli. Eileen Brennan is a riot as the mean Captain.

Guillermo Del Toro’s horror drama epic Frankenstein (2025) is beautiful and Gothic. After watching it on Netflix, I wish I could have seen it in a theater. Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, & Mia Goth are all fabulous. Breathtaking costuming, sets, makeup, cinematography , & score.
November 8, 2025 at 2:14 AM
Lynne Ramsay directs a poignant, moving, & grimdark drama about postpartum depression with her arthouse film Die My Love (2025). Jennifer Lawrence is devastating, forlorn, raging, insane, sexy, & melancholic as Grace. Robert Pattinson is sad as her husband. Crushingly emotional.
November 7, 2025 at 8:07 PM
I enjoyed Sydney Pollack’s Western drama The Electric Horseman (1979). Robert Redford is great as an alcoholic cowboy trying to make amends by freeing a horse mistreated by a corporation. Jane Fonda is fun as Redford’s bubbly love interest.
