Despite high blue whale pregnancy rates, mother-calf pairs are rarely seen. @trevorabranch.bsky.social proposes a solution: most calves are born immediately after mothers depart summer feeding grounds (with field studies) but weaned just before returning. bit.ly/esr_56_63
