The same argument holds well for scientific papers, it may be useful to some to read 40/80/100 year old paper, but apart from realizing how little data went into those papers, I can’t imagine it’s terribly enlightening in general
word.
Bah. Demanding people read half-century-old work as a purity test for genre membership is a fine way to kill the genre dead.

my first Bluesky post: We were tracking the oil plumes at depth using the CTD and UV fluorometer from the F.G. Walton Smith during the Deepwater Horizon response. This was the morning after the flaring started from one of the relief drilling ships.
