There is no compulsion to do it. It is neither regulated nor legislated. Those who choose to Acknowledge Country do it out of respect to First Nations peoples. Likewise when they conduct a Welcome to Country it is a mark of respect to those who come to their lands.

And forgive me if your questions are genuinely because you don’t know what a Welcome to Country is and are therefore unaware of the difference between that and an Acknowledgement of Country.

What part is overdone? Whenever I have someone come to my home I welcome them through the front door. It’s a mark of respect to them not a barking of, nor assertion to, my sole claims to a place. I was raised to believe that was the right thing to do.
