Works in academic publishing #OpenAccess/OpenData. Not entirely stupid. Ex-practitioner scientist. Never a researcher.

All views and opinions my own. No matter how poorly formed.
I am currently sitting on the sofa, reading a report on global open access, while my 11 week old puppy sleeps on my lap.

This is nice.

Of course she'll wake up and start biting me relentlessly in 20 mins...

Storm Amy has left me stranded in Dublin. I called BA to find an alternative flight home and they offered me a flight back to London from Inverness if I could make it there.

How in God's name do they expect me to get to Scotland.

Have a flight from Dublin now that will get me home 24hrs late.

Well worth a read.
The full ruling explaining why NIH grant cuts are illegal came out today.

It's just as blistering as the judge's oral remarks. And it uncovers fresh details in DOGE's role orchestrating the cuts — and on the cuts at Columbia.

Here are my top highlights from the 103-page ruling. 🧵
After ruling the NIH grant cuts were illegal yesterday, Judge Young, a Reagan appointee on the bench since 1985, ended the hearing with a blistering 15-minute speech.

I've cleaned up my notes — here are his remarks in full. 🧵

In a surprise to no-one Springer Nature and T&F are now publicly requiring all NIH supported papers to go down the gold OA route.

I imagine Elsevier and Wiley will follow in the coming days/hours.

Very happy with the east Asian inspired salad that I made for dinner. If only I had been able to find some green papaya.

Still for what was basically a slaw, the dressing was excellent.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Tried to swap back to the old Assistant as it claims you can, but it is borked.

@dankaszeta.bsky.social found a good Mexican place in London. My US-citizen wife (albeit from NJ, not AZ/NM/CA/TX) agreed that it was great.

It is a taqueria in Leytonstone, owned by a Mexican man and his British wife. Details here: www.homiesondonkeys.com
