The Trump regime’s campaign of whitewashing US history has reached the halls of the Smithsonian museums, with exhibits dealing with slavery, the civil rights movement, and other struggles against oppression now under threat of elimination. The regime has ordered a review of seven museums thus far and threatened to block federal funding – which accounts for the majority of the museums’ budgets – unless administrators bring displays into conformity with the regime’s ideology. This attack on the past is all about the politics of the present. The Trump regime is methodically dismantling programs that seek to address inequality and fight discrimination. That white nationalist project becomes far easier if the public lacks the historical context for why those programs were created and remain critical to our progress as a nation. All of us need to push back. Join us in urging the Smithsonian Board of Regents to reject this interference and defend the right of all Americans to learn the full truth about our history.

Just saw that FEMA is granting funds to States to build migrant camps. First saw the report on BBC and searched the internet to reports from US news agencies. I think it’s notable that I have not heard this report on daily news coverage.
I think FEMA funds could be out to much better use!

I am encouraged to see that Egypt, with other countries, is putting together a plan for rebuilding Gaza without forcing the residents to migrate to other countries. Finally, some planning that looks to the dignity of a people rather than an individual who sees dollar signs when looking at Gaza.

The Kennedy Center has issued a statement in response to Trump’s deranged post about making himself the chairman.
“There is nothing in the Center’s statute that would prevent a new administration from replacing board members; however, this would be the first time such action has been taken.”

Today the House of Reps will vote on legislation that mandates ICE detain migrants who steal or assault police officers. US citizens who assaulted police officers on Jan 6 were just pardoned. It seems that citizens who commit this crime should be held to a higher standard of accountability.
