the thing is that I don't think they're trying to compare AD to Val, I think he's used as a fulcrum of how deep of a hole you can dig yourself with your vices and how hard it is to leave all of it behind, but its really hard to see that given his dialogue, it does NOT help in the slightest

gosh it's so frustruating because I have a hard time understanding how folks give shows ratings but hazbin S1 is like the ONLY show I can confiedently give a 6/10, it's far from horrible, i like the songs, but it leaves SO much on the table, i wish i could rate other shows so confidently

If they want to show Heaven as an oppressive force, then I think the season should have focused on the beaten and downtrodden indivuals of hell, victims of circumstance like Angel Dust, before introducing the Vees who have a real reason to not only belong, but thrive there

also you hit the nail on the head of the problem I have of S1 apart from the pacing, given its nature of punishing all the damned but them being all on the same layer, really does add to the confusion of how nuanced they want to make this show at times.
