To end GBV, we must challenge the stereotypes that excuse or justify this violence and recognize that this violence reaches all communities, including young girls and older women, those living in rural and urban areas and women and girls from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

Online violence is still violence. From threatening text messages and doxxing, to image based sexual violence and online stalking and harrassment, technology is increasingly being used as a tool to further control, fear and the reach of gender-based violence.

80% of Intimate Partner violence victims said the violence they experienced was not reported to police. Reporting to police in 2019 was lower compared to 20 years prior (Statistics Canada, 2019).

Gender-based violence can include physical forms of violence, emotional and psychological violence, financial abuse and spiritual abuse and may also include harassment, stalking and exploitation.
