I love: Whadjuk land, biking, nature, engineering, phone photos and probably other things.
I agree but I think there has actually been some improvement in this regard. Here anyway. Developers are forced to apply "Water Sensitive Urban Design" and some local governments are upgrading their main drainage from piped networks to surface flows (where possible).

Don't forget that you'll need a chain breaking tool to match the length to your original one. They're cheap but still worth borrowing instead.

What a pain. Good luck with the repair. I'm not up to speed on coolant colours either but the coolant they sell at the stealership is blue. You're not supposed to mix the colours.
