Activist, musician and nerd having fun at capitalism's expense in Pōneke Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Any views expressed here are my personal reckons only.
The so-called centre-left thinking they can pull support from the actual far right by pretending to be far right 🤡 So embarrassing.

Thanks from Aotearoa for holding the line Zack, you're doing awesome work 🌿✊️

Embarrassed to admit I quoted the IMF figure to a couple of friends saying "..and that's without even factoring in externalities!" because I assumed that subsidies meant, y'know, subsidies 🙃

What's the right number to use in your view if we're just talking subsidies (producer, price, taxes etc)?

It's gonna be so cringe watching so many milquetoast politicians try to Mamdani-cargo-cult their way to victory while completely misunderstanding everything that made his campaign successful

NO when other people want choices that are different from my choices it's because they hate me personally and want to take away all my nice things.

Yeah but also Occam's Razor what if our politicians just think they know best and don't care what the experts think

so that lends a certain credibility. Whichever way you slice it the point remains that we spend too much propping up an obsolete industry that's wrecking the planet when we have alternatives that are better on any measure.

Appreciate the challenge and context! I'm not qualified to unpack all this stuff but I recognise there are many different ways to model this all of which involve disputable assumptions and choices. The IMF figures are noteworthy because the IMF is not typically regarded as super lefty..

Agree, it's very performative and doesn't tackle the real issues. While regulating is complex the biggest barrier is lack of political will; we needn't go it alone in this space when huge economies like the EU are already doing it.

Definitely appreciate the artistry - the sets, costumes, character designs are incredible. It's nice to see a take that leans into the creature's humanity, though it leans so far as to kinda undermine the central theme that "playing God is bad"

One thing that struck me about the speech is the strength of will it projected, not just individual but collective - WE are going to get this things done, supporters repeating the policies as a mantra, bureaucrats put on notice that excellence will be the new norm. It inspires a lot of confidence.

Yeah, I used to think he was just an inexperienced ideological nullity being manipulated but the extent to which they're pushing this regressive trash in their own party's portfolios goes way beyond that to active support and endorsement of the far right agenda.
