I liked the way the anime in Sun/Moon demonstrated that Z-moves do not provide a guaranteed win or automatically end a battle.

I’m glad you address fame in your fanfiction. I think that was lacking for Ash’s character.
Not saying that he had to be a household name but after touring 4+ league appearances, regular trainers should have known who he was.

They could have played with the idea of night session matches at leagues. Two QF matches in the morning 2 QF matches at night; something along those lines.
