6:30pm: A serious situation developing in Union County, NJ and some surrounding areas. Local law enforcement reports flash flooding and radar shows rainfall totals exceeding 6”. A reminder to take warnings seriously and to never attempt to drive through flood waters.

5:30pm: Multiple flash flood warnings are in effect across New Jersey and thunderstorms are forecast to expand across the area in the next few hours. Have a way to get weather warnings through tonight. Do not ever attempt to drive through flood waters.

4:00pm: Severe thunderstorms are moving into Northern NJ as expected. These are still an hour or two away from NYC, but the threat for severe weather will increase into the early evening hours.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the NYC Metro in a Level 3/5 (Enhanced) Risk for severe thunderstorms later today. Scattered storms capable of producing damaging winds are possible after 4pm.
