If you care about renters in Ontario may I recommend signing this petition or sending an email to your MPP ASAP? While some harmful provisions were removed from Bill 60 thanks to swift public pushback, several still remain that will weaken tenant rights.

My very first time having poems in The Malahat Review!

Pictured here is "Desert Fauna," which features some horses and a rather oblique allegory. Not pictured is "Grape," which I wrote when I was thinking a lot about how I hate the way grapes are used on social media these days...

Bet you didn't think I had MORE to say about book blurbs after my last 1,800-word article on them but here I am! Brockton Writers Series @brocktonwriters.bsky.social was kind enough to invite me to speak on the subject at their latest event, and to do a guest blog post about it.

It's been a minute (1.5 years) since I've had a poem out in a mag, and what a mag to be back with: @midnightsunmag.bsky.social has published "Villiform," a deconstructed villanelle whose central conceit is about disability as a kind of poetic constraint for living. www.midnightsunmag.ca/villiform/

I've had a long, fraught relationship with the "true crime" genre. There's hardly been a day in the past several years that I haven't engaged with it in some way, despite being very aware of the troubling ethics that ground it. The problem of violence, and how and why it occurs...

Book blurbs have been a contentious topic of late, for good reason. But I still love them. Here's why & here's how you can too (if you want to). Spoiler: I think book blurbs have a lot in common with book reviews.

Thanks Writer's Digest for giving this a home. www.writersdigest.com/getting-publ...

I had a 'never give up on a story you love' moment this year. "Pluck" is an odd story, I'll admit. It's about a lonely, directionless, 20-something florist who one day finds herself dogged by a mass of leaves she cannot shake off. It racked up 30ish rejections, though I thought it was a good piece.

One of my few reviews this year. Kazim Ali's SUKUN is an absolutely gorgeous mid-career retrospective of a poetic oeuvre. I tried my hardest to do it justice in my first piece for The Malahat Review. With thanks to Jay Ruzesky & Iain Higgins for the edits!
