On Friday, Hochul said she’s considering issuing an executive order to delay enforcement of NY’s end to gas in new buildings. She also was ordered by a state court later in the day to follow the state’s climate law, which she is also ignoring.

Although we deeply disagree with Lander’s depiction of our work, there are two months left in his term. Comptroller Lander can fulfill his promises by sending deficient, dirty asset managers, including BlackRock, to rebid as he promised.

The policies we support protect both the planet and the pension funds for workers and retirees – and large European public pension funds are acting.

With Trump and his minions successfully pressuring firms like BlackRock to back off even very modest climate action, local elected officials are the only hope for climate vulnerable communities. The pension funds are one of the most powerful, market-shaping tools NYC has.

Like most politicians, Lander does not like to be held accountable. But as organizers, we know that is exactly our role—to hold elected officials to their word and push them towards progress.

With our allies, we’ve campaigned for 4 years for this. There are now two months left in Comptroller Lander’s term - and he has yet to deliver on these commitments. He’s blown past multiple deadlines he himself committed to.
