The same car that ICE agents got into earlier on Canal and Church exited the cordoned off area around 26 Federal Plaza.

Despite NYPD's major efforts to crack down on license plate covers and other ghost cars, they didn't care when one drove right in front of their eyes.

You think the NYPD's going to go after this illegal plate cover?

Bullshit comments like this won't make America's roads, buses and trains safer by perpetuating distorted, racist myths about why our transportation system is so deadly.

We said this was going to happen, but Mayor Adams didn't care: Cyclists are being forced into dangerous traffic by all of the double parking on three blocks of Bedford Avenue where the mayor ripped out a protected bike lane.

Advocates held Monday's rally in Greenpoint at the intersection where the McGuinness Blvd. road diet ends — hoping to make the roadway a symbol for making the streets safer for people, not bowing to big businesses. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/08/25/m...

"I stopped biking on 31st Street and I started biking on 35th Street because of the fact that I did not want to jeopardize my life each and every day," said @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/08/25/m...

"What I would do as the next mayor of this city, is on the first day I would get to work on completing the entire road diet for McGuinness," Mamdani said at a mayoral forum in March.

He also signed the Make McGuinness Safe pledge, a commitment that neither Cuomo nor Adams has made.

Also on Friday, as multiple scandals were still swirling around City Hall, likely next mayor @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social took a victory lap and reiterated his pledge to complete the portion of the McGuinness Boulevard redesign that Bragg's probe suggested Adams shelved at the behest of the Argentos.
August 22, 2025 at 10:17 PM
The Argentos are now facing 11 years in prison on felony charges for their alleged bribes.

Their campaign against the bike lane — which they said would adversely affect their business — could now very well destroy their business, their reputation and their political connections.

But everything the Argentos had been building through political soft power came crashing down over McGuinness Boulevard because they encountered something they had never encountered before:

Organized local resistance to dangerous streets as usual. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/08/22/r...

Their political donations have, for years, bought influence, which the Argentos have used to oppose street safety upgrades in north Brooklyn.

And they'd largely been successful: Blocking a road diet on the Greenpoint Ave. Bridge and thwarting an effort to put new bike lanes near their soundstages.

Here's the clip from Hulu's "Godfather of Harlem" S3E3 featuring a cameo from former mayoral aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin.

@manhattanda.bsky.social revealed that she got this role thanks to the Argentos, who run Broadway Stages. In return, Lewis-Martin stopped safety improvements on McGuinness.

"Just make sure we shut their asses down on McGuinness."

"I hope [Tony Argento] is not yelling and screaming. I did a good job on McGuinness."

In late June 2023, Gina Argento sent $2,500 to Ingrid Lewis-Martin, which she accepted.

Days later, Lewis-Martin sent an email to the DOT commissioner and others about her intention to get involved in the McGuinness Boulevard redesign project, through an anonymous point person.

On June 7, 2023, days after being paid for her appearance on "Godfather of Harlem," Ingrid Lewis-Martin began her work to stop the safety improvements on McGuinness Blvd.

A week later, Broadway Stages hosted a town hall meeting about the redesign proposal. nyc.streetsblog.org/2023/06/16/d...

Ingrid Lewis-Martin got this text message on June 3, 2022: "Good Morning Ingrid ... our friend Gina Argento needs our support has to do with bike lanes."

Lewis-Martin's response: "I have been working on it. I have a plan."

"We do not care what they say. We are ignoring them and continuing with our plan. @makemcguinnesssafe.bsky.social can kiss my ass." - Ingrid Lewis-Martin to Gina Argento
