It really bothers me how much government oppression of the wealthy and privileged is seen as a big deal. Yes, it shows that things are changing. But it also acknowledges how much oppression has been going on for so long.

It's hard to see whether this helps at all. It's neurological analysis of a problem that is clear in many sociological, economic, or political analyses, or just intuition.
I'm sure the work is well-done, and impressive, but if nobody was willing to listen to the other research papers, why this one?

I want to agree, but honestly, the child getting killed is the really horrifying thing, and my brain wants to avoid facing that, or imagining and understanding that, and so I want to talk about dystopian SF and the uncanny valley.
