Sorry, I know we're on the same side, but I think we're far past appropriacy. We're on to death squads, organized child rape, and murder. Every online joke about this, every annoyed or outraged post, just seems a waste of time. It's like complaining that the SS uniforms were too on the nose.

The discrimination based on color is highlighted, but the discrimination based on economic class is something even Gandhi seemed to believe in.

It doesn't land, to me, how it was perhaps intended.

It really bothers me how much government oppression of the wealthy and privileged is seen as a big deal. Yes, it shows that things are changing. But it also acknowledges how much oppression has been going on for so long.
The wealthy and white should never have been off limits in the first place.

Is he being sarcastic or unbearably naive?

It's hard to see whether this helps at all. It's neurological analysis of a problem that is clear in many sociological, economic, or political analyses, or just intuition.

I'm sure the work is well-done, and impressive, but if nobody was willing to listen to the other research papers, why this one?

Wage theft. The core of capitalism.

I know a ̶s̶o̶n̶g̶ book about that!

A corrupt man can only be so openly when the institutions of society are corrupt.

Trump is an emergent phenomenon of the interaction between a propagandized people and unfettered greed.

He doesn't really matter. He's just the lure on the anglerfish.

You know that joke:

"What's the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire?"

"About a billion dollars."

So, then, the amount of financial damage caused to Disney by anger at them is nothing compared to the billions the government can take from them.

You can't vote with your wallet.

It's very unclear. It's like saying 'this Terry Pratchett book is about puns, irony, and British social ills'.

I don't know if Ms. Vernon is on the spectrum, but I do really hate it when people conflate nerdiness and ASD, unless it's a friendly joke.

You are definitely gloriously dorky about this stuff, and that's one of many reasons I love your work.

How is Newsom like Trump?

I know whenever I stay in hospital, I call my business partner first and have a lengthy explanation of why it wasn't me who hit her drafted and sent out by my head of security.

No it isn't. It's not a mystical celebration of consumerism or literature. It's just a word for buying too many books.

I want to agree, but honestly, the child getting killed is the really horrifying thing, and my brain wants to avoid facing that, or imagining and understanding that, and so I want to talk about dystopian SF and the uncanny valley.

There is little that would be more uncanny valley than this, but...

This guy didn't actually marry a hologram, because you can't.

But the West does love a fake 'Japanese people be crazy' story.

The truth is more boring, which is that a Japanese mentally ill man said he is married to a 'virtual idol', and makes money talking about that, like any grifter.

America needs its people to face its internal threats. Yes, it has external enemies, but the main threats to the people of America, not the state, are as American as apple pie and the KKK.

There's Book-Off in America?

That's the 'wow' bit for me. I had no idea.

'Dress for the owner-class you want to be'.

Of course they do. They are owned by the super-rich or by corporations. There's no such thing as a left-wing corporation.

You think Nintendo paid her? That they can afford to just pay Brie Larson for her time opening a Switch 2?

I'm not sure anyone in Gitmo has ever been a criminal. Were the 'terrorists' ever tried and found guilty of a crime?
