Three years ago today my mother died. My profile pic is one of my fave photos of her. Baking makes me feel closer to her so I baked this today.

I’m lucky to live a few blocks away from Lake Michigan on the Northside of Chicago. This photo is from my walk at Foster Beach this morning.

Here are some beautiful heirloom and Roma tomatoes I got from the Green City Market (Chicago) today. Yum.

Apples from Chicago’s Green City Market this morning. The aroma is otherworldly. Thinking of making an apple cake with some of them as well as eating some fresh.

But what would the GOP have left without the racism and sexism?

Some Black (domestic, hair) History: This is a hot comb. Many generations of Black women in the U.S. pressed their hair with it after heating up on a stove, to straighten their hair if they didn’t have “good hair.” This is the one my mother used on my hair when I was growing up.

I found this at my parents’ house recently. Definitely something my dad bought years ago. He probably listened to it at some point. My dad’s a disorganized hoarder. I found this in an old clothes hamper along with 10 bars of soap, among other things.
