Well done! I’ll be eager to see it. I have a mini-Phal that was blooming when it was given to me a few years ago but now it keeps making roots where it shouldn’t, where spikes should come out, new leaves too, but no blooms.

So you can see the second bud:

There are reasons.

I didn’t get one of those home devices you talk to. Too much a child of the early 70s when we were paranoid of being listened to. My son has a HomePod and uses it all the time though.

I wasn’t trying to prescribe what anyone else should do, just to be clear. Part of it is just my age and a reluctance to change. I respect your decision to choose something better than Spotify. : )

I just never got into streaming even though Apple is always offering me a deal on theirs. And I like the idea of the musicians getting more when I buy something.

Makes sense. I’ve had problems with ones posted in sphagnum, except one phal that’s at a window in a low humidity environment.

What a remarkable orchid. Unique and beautiful!

You and I should be in charge! haha

@orchidfever.bsky.social A closeup of Paph Balding Man (Garibaldi X Manayunk). Handsome fellow! 😍

Plenty of stones over at Avebury to break up!

Maybe we could set some stones back up so at least one lane runs through a trilithon! ;-)

I like to think I have inspired a few people to be interested in nature in some cases and in poetry in others, decades ago now for the second, and that they are passing it on and will pass it on. Not interested in my name being remembered, but that the love I had for things is somehow perpetuated.

Maybe. random samples can sometimes show patterns that aren't there and I can fall prey to that as much as anyone. The obsession for life thing though, happens more easily for some.

In that sense archaeologists can thank #Stonehenge for some of the public's interest in archaeology. There's some kind of psychology at work there that I wish could be investigated further.

Had a great quotation I can't find right now, a teacher took her class to Stonehenge and it was the first time she saw her student, an autistic girl, smile. Other examples like a family watched a show that had SH in it and the next time their very young boy played with blocks that's what he built.

Oh it's definitely some people and not others. I've seen that this whole time.
November 30, 2025 at 12:06 PM
Of course other sites have just as many or more interesting facts and stories but the visual power of Stonehenge will always draw some people to prehistory in a way nothing else can. It's like showing a picture of a gorgeous woman to bring people into the movies.
November 30, 2025 at 12:05 PM
Probably says as much about my being on the autism spectrum as it does about Stonehenge but for some people at least there's a power in seeing Stonehenge that other sites don't have and the media just plays to that.

My opinion, not a weighty one, I know, is that #Stonehenge is what interests a lot of people in the Neolithic at all. Like it or not the visual power of it reaches people and makes them want to know more. I saw a picture of it when I was 10, 61 years ago, and it grabbed me like nothing else.

I think I know where they did some of their research though. I had a rise in traffic for a day or two recently. That Bavarian Strawhenge is of course long gone.

“He said he has no plans to hoist a firetruck so it sits horizontally across two vertical trucks — like the stones at Stonehenge and cars at Carhenge.”
A shame. The look of #Stonehenge is what makes it seem a little mystical and special. (And a fire truck henge would be cool and a first!)

Strange choice not to call the slipper orchid paphiopedilum
