I‘ve found @ztameez.bsky.social’s Chas.Sumner biography a great complement to the Jon Meacham book from a couple of years ago that focused on the years leading up to the Civil War. Two lenses on an important part of US history that is still resonating today.

I had a similar reaction after seeing the film when I was young. A few years ago, I was in a town in upstate NY and took this photo which I always refer to as my “Last Picture Show” shot.
