Asst. Prof at UCPH, Denmark. I research how things go wrong in neurodev disorders. Still trying to figure out how the world works. Indian at heart (whatever that means)
Really cool work. Congratulations to all the authors 👏🏽

I don't think the poor quality is a result of poor journos. Rather it is top down cultivation of primetime joker editors, and the lack of fact-checkers. Of course it helps that the paying audience is happy with whatever they are fed.

As a wet-lab biologist, I'm amazed by how much data is already out there waiting to be mined.
Thanks to Kostya, Susmita, and Carl for indulging in this journey.

I don't every time I am making a poster on PowerPoint or Illustrator. Also when I need to cut down words for a submission. The change from staring at a screen really helps.

What does this mean for the future?

📍 Better biomarkers
📍 Mechanism-informed psychiatry
📍 A deeper understanding of how early life shapes mental health

We looked at studies employing both mouse models and human stem cell systems.

Findings suggest prenatal immune stress can reshape:
🍰 Cortical layering
⚖️ Neuronal subtype balance
📶 Corticostriatal connectivity

The biology aligns with what we see in actual patient data.

Even a temporary immune trigger—like a viral infection—can disrupt fetal brain development.

Key molecules like IL-6 and IL-17A can cross the placenta, affecting neural progenitors, microglia, and brain circuit formation.

The effects can last decades! 😲

🧠 What if stress on the immune system during pregnancy could shape a baby’s brain—for life?

There are several threads of evidence that point to it which makes it an interesting field of study from a fundamental as well as a clinical point of view.
