I was NOT expecting to win this award and I’m so so so honored. Grateful to the New Yorker, the Beard Foundation, and of course most of all Padma.

I wasn’t able to be at the awards ceremony in person — here’s my acceptance speech.
Thank you to the Beard Foundation for this extraordinary honor. Thank you to my editor, Rachel Arons, who is a genius, and who shepherded this piece through many unexpected and thrilling evolutions. Most of all, thank you to Padma Lakshmi, an extraordinary person and a dream subject for any writer— complex, surprising, contradictory, someone of near-infinite twists and turns. Profiles are my favorite kind of writing work-immersing yourself in someone else's life to the point where you see yourself he threads of their character as their spun is a bizarre, thrilling thing to get paid to do-and I feel so lucky to get to write them at all, let alone for outlets like the New Yorker, and about people like Padma. It's a glittering luxury to get to do this for a living, especially right now, when thinking deeply about things like culture and art and food and comedy and television can feel like floaty pillow fluff against the heavy urgency of rising fascism. I won a Beard Award last year, for restaurant criticism, and in my acceptance speech I pointed out the tension of winning for a review I wrote of a Palestinian restaurant while the people in Palestine at the time were being starved by the ongoing Israeli blockade. A year later, the world is worse, Israel's assault is unchecked, countless more Palestinians are dead, and their starvation is the best-documented, largest, man-made mass starvation the world has known. I'm not so starvation the world has known. I'm not so grandiose as to think a restaurant review or a celebrity profile can stall the relentless wheels of empire, but I really, truly do believe that our beliefs, our norms, our sense of humanity are forged in the culture pages: the language we choose to speak with, the stories we choose to tell. The soft work of culture media-all of it, food media perhaps most of all-shapes our hearts and our minds. I'm proud to be part of this world, and to stand alongside so many of you. Thank you so much for this award, free Palestine, fuck ICE, amen.

2) What are the workflow tradeoffs? With IPW, one can revise the treatment model until adequate balance is achieved without biasing the treatment effect estimate or needing to account for the multiple looks in the variance estimation. Would the same hold true for g-computation?

Really great write up! Clear and concise explanation with a tidy example in code. Two things I'm wondering about:

1) How does the computational complexity compare with that for IPW methods?
