Just in case the focus within the field of Qur'ānic Studies ever shifts from Syriac to Hebrew, I'm leaving this here so everyone knows I said it first.

I’m in my seventh decade, I’m tired, my health is terrible, I was ambivalent about joining the No Kings demonstration on Saturday. But now after LA I am determined to participate hell or high water

Does the Qur'ān misquote the Bible? Does it do so out of ignorance, or on purpose?

To facilitate ease in reading, I have transcribed a brief X exchange between Professor @shahansean.bsky.social & myself, & posted it on reddit. Perhaps some will find it interesting.

As of today I will no longer be making/engaging with posts on r/AcademicQuran subreddit.

This is due to issues related to selective silencing and what could very easily be interpreted as Islamophobia.

Anyone who needs to contact me can message me on reddit directly (or on X or BlueSky).

I remember once reading where someone was on a rant about pubs being the cornerstone of (British) society lol.
Heck yeah, I visit often.

Public libraries are awesome and vital for the common good of our society.

The Ugaritic Baal Epic's "storm god" theophany shows divine power through nature. This is mirrored in 2 Samuel 22:8 and Job 26:11, where the divine warrior's presence shakes the heavens and the earth ... #intertextuality #bible #criticalbible

Q 2:116 states: “They say, ‘God has taken (ittakhadha) a son.’”

Patricia Crone argues that this verb “does not mean to adopt children” (see Azaiez et al., Seminar Commentary, 333.)

See Q 28:9, where this exact verb is used to describe the adoption of Moses!

Muslims tend to read the Qur’ān against the backdrop of the beliefs of their community, circumstances of their social context, as well as their psychological convictions. However, historians sometimes forget that the original audience of the Qur’ān read it in light of a similar backdrop of their own
