Dr Nupur Nag : Find an Expert : The University of Melbourne
Dr Nupur Nag holds a PhD in Neuroscience (The University of Melbourne), and is a Senior Research Fellow and the Deputy Head of the Neuroepidemiology Unit at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. Stemming from her international research career spanning epigenetics, neurological disorders, clinical registries, and neuroepidemiology, and lived experience, Dr Nag is a passionate advocate of lifestyle medicine for chronic illness prevention and leads research in this area. Her primary research focus is assessing the role of lifestyle (diet, substance use, meditation, physical activity, sleep quality, and social connection) in secondary prevention of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurological disorders. In collaboration with industry partners and co-designed with consumers, Dr Nag additionally investigates efficacy of Forest Therapy and meditation for reducing risk of mental health disorders, digital health monitoring for self-managed health and behaviour change, and barriers and facilitators for behaviour change. Dr Nag has authored over 60 publications, supervised 28 HDR students, and is an avid volunteer for organisations supporting mental wellbeing and marginalized people. Dr Nag welcomes enquiries for research collaboration and from potential HDR students. Current research projects Individual and additive effects of lifestyle behaviours on health outcomes in people with MS.Predictors of long-term health outcome trajectories in people with MS.Efficacy of meditation app for mental health management.Mental health management in university students.Forest bathing for mental health management.Barriers and facilitators for implementing and adhering to lifestyle behaviours.Shared symptoms and comorbidities to inform risk reduction strategies across neurological disorders.Associations with high-processed food consumption and chronic illnesses.
