It’s engrained in the system at *every* level, not just lawyers. But IMO the real issue is Wall Street.

Corporate officers have a legal responsibility to maximize profits, and Wall Street has gotten more and more focused on the short-term because of the ease & speed of buying & selling.

And even if it’s not legal, the individuals involved in the decisionmaking rarely get punished. The corporation has to pay a minuscule fine, which is just a price of doing business.

I think the main reason to avoid unfairness and inconsistency is that they undermine the ability of the players to make interesting decisions—so they’re actually covered by inference.

The quest for a teacher is a story that’s frequently missing from RPGs.

It could make interesting adventure fodder at important breakpoints (e.g. D&D tiers)

(although in a large group, you’d have to be careful what you required for this, so as not to make the game constantly about training)
