The European Union is the last genuine hope for social democracy. It is culturally vibrant and diverse. It maintains regulatory power that keeps the worst corporate criminals in check. An alliance with the EU would benefit them and us. Shared values are at the core of a successful partnership.

It would be difficult or impossible to know. My father (born 1928 in Germany) told me that Hitler, near the end, broadcast that the Allies, if victorious, would spread lies about concentration camps. Many Germans who had supported the regime would have lapped this up to reduce cognitive dissonance.
