The stratosphere is my favorite. I teach stats & math at Fitchburg State University. Arospec, she/her. Methodist. Texan/Oklahoman in the Northeast. Many sports, dance, books, roller coasters.
I was crying from the standing ovation before Christina Black's last rock all the way through O Canada. Team Homan 😭🥇

And I'm so glad that the men's final ended on Team Jacobs making a shot to win. It was such fulfilling drama.

I'm grateful for getting to see two incredible curling games and also for some friendly seat neighbors for the weekend!

Canadian Olympic Trials for curling are at the same arena that 2024 Skate Canada #GPFigure was, but they appear to have covered the moose head 😥

Not perfect, but a decent first attempt!

Instead of just bread that represents where we're from for World Community Sunday, my church expanded to snacks in general this year. Pralines cooling, first ever attempt at fried okra coming soon...

A belated #MathsToday from yesterday: Principles of Data Analysis started working with classification models, so... I asked them about sandwiches.

They all had the same list of 12 food items to start, and then after guessing & refining some definitions, we discussed some additional foods.

(Approximately) PME colors for our induction ceremony! Excited to celebrate some awesome students.

#MathsToday Principles of Data Analysis sorted some research questions into types, and then based on their sorting, we talked about different statistical learning approaches/methods! (I think I need to vary the language on these a bit more 😅)

A sentimental textbook pick: Chartrand & Zhang's Chromatic Graph Theory. It's part of the story of my 1st paper, it traveled around the world with me, and the first two photos I sent my mom after arriving to my grad school apartment were of (1) my new room and (2) this book in said room (below).

Bu ailəmin şəklidir. Şəkildə biz 2022-ci ildə Texasda idik. Nənəm soldadır, və babam sağdadır. Onlar Bakıda iki il yaşadırlar. Bakıdan əvvəl, London, Brüssel, Yeni Orlean, Sinqapur, Cakarta və Hyustonda yaşamışdılar çünki babam neft muhendisi idi (🙃). İndi Şimali Karolinada yaşayırlar.

Iki ay Sinqapurda kimya laboratoriyasıda işlədim.
Soldakı şəkildə, adamın adı Valavandır. O doktorluq dərəcəsi alırdı. O kimya mühəndisidir. Valavandan səkkiz yaş kiçiyəm. O yay laboratoriyada mənə hər şey öyrətdi.
Sağda, Marina Bay Sandsın şəklidir. O, məşhur oteldir.

No context class anecdote: my Probability students have decided that all context-less problems are now somehow about "the armadillo tower."

(Sketch is by a previous student, but it's the same armadillo tower.)
