Black Friday ads five years from each consoles respective launch. I am still fascinated at how cheap we used to be able to get the consoles.

Book 28: Rogue Moon by Algis Budrys. Really liked this, predates the Star Trek transporter and really dwells on the reality of how that device would work.

Book 27: Clandestine by James Ellroy. Shadow of his mother's murder hangs heavy over the entirety of this. I thought the initial murder was a substitute for his mom and then he goes even further imitating it with the second. I think I have about 7-8 novels left before I've finished his bibliography

Book 26: No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. Book club book about a real piece of shit, though an idea @risottostone.bsky.social introduced to me is that the framing device is itself another performance by protag Ōba Yōzō.

Book 25: Flesh by Philip José Farmer. Thought this would be more explicit than it ended up being in terms of sex. Post apocalyptic romp through DC and some east coast lands.

It's so funny the man who reviewed pop culture in front of a Ready Player One banner image has now directed four good sci fi films (I have not yet seen the predator anthology). Never give up hope!

The footnotes displayed like this for me lol, very unfortunate. Good argument, always a joy to read someone who loves words and using them. Also enjoyed the opening "I'd've"

Book 24: Deathworld by Harry Harrison. Great scifi adventure.

Book 23: Thieves Like Us by Edward Anderson, spent nearly the whole novel waiting for the tragedy to strike and it still stung like hell once it finally did.
