When we see him on screen by himself, he drops the accent. When he says "I'm sorry Dogmeat, but you ain't him" he sounds like Cooper. Same at the very end when he talks to Lucy and asks her to come with him. It's like when his guard is down, he stops "acting" as this new cold persona he created.

I noticed this when watching the show. The accent is put on.
Copper Howard was a good, kind man who didn't want to even kill a bad guy in fiction.
With what happened after the bombs, he had to adapt by creating this new version of himself in order to cope with things he saw and did to survive.
