Sorry, somebody already had that train of thought, and my >10 yrs of never plugging in a USB A port wrong says yes it does. I think it'd be beneficial for you if you followed this thread: bsky.app/profile/jame...
How about in the dark or somewhere awkward you can’t see the socket?

They know what they’re doing. Same with the furled finger being how people hold circle

I can understand that, but I've already prepared an "else" case for you: bsky.app/profile/null...
Otherwise... just look for the bar before plugging in? I don't understand why it would be so hard if you just know the fact that the only reason it doesn't get plugged the wrong way is because there's a bar that blocks the path. So just take a look at which side the bar is on??

You might ask "isn't it exhausting having to consciously follow the algorithm all the time?"... but like, maybe it's me being in the right age to learn when A was being standardized, but it never had to be a conscious effort for me. It came naturally like how you would grab a pencil right side up.

the only devices that would be in such positions (immovably) are host devices (laptops, desktops, huge midi keyboards, etc). Host devices ALWAYS have the ports right side up, otherwise you'd know to do it bottom side up anyway as the whole device is flipped. Then, you just follow the above rule

I usually pretty much only plug stuff in that I already have when I had light, and so I know from touch which side the top side is. RIP if you have to, but I can't imagine many people plugging in brand new devices in the dark very often. And for devices in awkward places -- 1/2

I don't understand... I've never misplugged a USB A. It's so easy -- the side that has the logo/sticker/whatever is the top side with no blocking bar. Top side up. ALWAYS. Host has a vertical plug? Usually it's the top side to the left in the perspective of looking at the plug head on.
