Do you think this idea is downstream of the SOF mission creep over the last few decades? I think a lot of people‘s impression now is that all these different units just do night raids and that’s the only thing you’d need them for.

I don't have exceedingly high housing costs, but in order to still have a job that means I live a 1 hour bus ride away in a shared apartment. all this despite being well above the median income for my area.

When people are priced out of housing they end up just having to live further away or in worse places. This means the cost as a % of income is the same while the costs rise overall. The people on the bottom end of incomes then get pushed out of the market.

They gotta ask Ms. Rachel if she has ties to Hamas because of baseless claims but when there are actual emails from the perp we have to hold off until we get more info.

(which apparently means “sit on it and do nothing for years”)

Also I’ve met like 20 obnoxious guys like that for every 1 slightly too intense vegan.

Thankfully my full name is the same as a character in a movie that's notable enough it overwhelms the search results but not enough that you'd remember the movie if you heard my name..

But that being said it’s not like companies are never stupid…
August 29, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Totally fair. It’s not impossible, I’m just not sure there is sufficient demand to justify that for most hotels. I’ve worked in labor planning (not hospitality tbf) and we wouldn’t introduce that kind of complexity unless totally necessary. The fact that few places do this suggests it’s not.

Earlier checkin seems like the most useful thing, since it can be really annoying if you are in a situation with luggage and aren't somewhere that has storage lockers. But hard to change that without cutting into check out and it would also really suck to be trying to get out the door at 8am.
August 28, 2025 at 10:36 PM
So by nature a hotel pretty much needs to have a gap between check out and check in. Where are you going to set it? The most common situation is that people are traveling on the same day they check in/out so it makes sense to calibrate accordingly. So most people are arriving later than they leave.
August 28, 2025 at 10:26 PM
Also how often do you need to check out the same time you came in? Most people are arriving sometime in the afternoon and leaving sometime in the morning on the last day. Why would I be hanging out there until 6pm the next day?

“Non player character” it’s a term originally used in tabletop and video games. But it started getting used by weirdos to talk about the people around them as being lesser or not as “real” as them. They basically see other people as fluff or background noise and not as smart and important as them.

Calling people "NPCs" is such an indicator that he's been getting influenced by marinating in the rightwing cesspool and is failing to notice.

These folks all think they are too big brain to be affected by this and yet they clearly are.
August 23, 2025 at 8:49 PM
It’s always meaningless if they don’t show any indications that they are critically evaluating their beliefs and behaviors that led them to this point. Oh did the leopards eat your face? Are you going to reflect on how we ended up here?
There is nothing to suggest he won’t fall for the next one.
August 23, 2025 at 6:46 PM
These folks always talk like it's the solemn responsibility of every social platform to have an equal balance of all opinions and ideologies. That's just not how sociality works, even with people that are openminded and accepting of other viewpoints!
August 23, 2025 at 2:06 PM
Also why does a website need to be all things to all people? Has there ever been a discussion forum where EVERY opinion was treated as equally valid? People have always clustered with like minded folks and trends get formed. Sometimes things I find absurd become dominant.

Same position. Its obviously not viable for me for a number of reasons now, but it’s still very unsettling to take a dream I’ve had for years and kill it.

I'm in the same boat. I was always super fascinated by this stuff. I don't think I ever thought there weren't freaks in that space, but once I started paying attention I realized that there really isn't anywhere for me to go.
August 22, 2025 at 2:06 AM
Ironically I think it's a similar mentality to the idea that we can't regulate guns any further because of xyz threat.

In both we are allowing a statistically more common negative scenario in order to convince ourselves we have some kind of agency in the event of the less likely one.
