In her capacity as Chair of Cruit Éireann | Harp Ireland, she works with her board to develop and promote harping in Ireland and worldwide. In 2019, partnering with the Dept. of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Heritage & Media, she achieved UNESCO recognition for Irish Harping.

A fluent Irish speaker and practicing harper, she has experience as a performer, spokesperson, and freelance writer. As Director of An Chúirt Chruitireachta, the International Festival for Irish Harp, Aibhlín transformed the perception of Irish harping nationally and internationally.

Dr Maurice Manning was elected Chancellor of the National University of Ireland on March 12, 2009, and served in this position until October 2024.

Maurice Manning has also been President of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and was Chair of the European Group of National Human Rights Institutions.

He has published widely and was an Adjunct Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations at UCD. Dr Manning has served in both Dáil and Seanad Éireann. He was a member of the New Ireland Forum, and the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body.

Dr Manning is a proud Carlow man. He was a member of the NUI Senate for twenty seven years, and served on the Governing Authority of @ucddublin.bsky.social from 1979 to 2008. He spent much of his academic career in the Department of Politics at UCD.

Most recently, Cooke was inducted as a Fellow of DIA and was awarded the '2025 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Health'. '25 also saw Cooke presented with the ICMRA award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to international cooperation and the advancement of ICMRA’s mission.

In 2021 she received the Muckross (her alma mater) Woman of the Year award. In 2022 she was a recipient of the Trinity College Alumni Award and named “European of the Year” by European Movement Ireland. In 2023 she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

She has worked in the Pharmaceuticals unit of the European Commission, where she was responsible for international collaboration, EU enlargement and the orphan medicines regulation for the European Pharmaceutical Industry Association (EFPIA) and in various industry and regulatory positions.

Cooke is a pharmacist with Master’s degrees in Science & Business Administration from Trinity College Dublin. She has over 30 years’ experience in international regulatory affairs and held management positions at the EMA as Head of Inspections and Head of International Affairs respectively '02-'16.

Between November 2016 and November 2020, she was the Director responsible for all medical product related regulatory activities at the World Health Organization in Geneva.

Emer Cooke has been the Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency, based in Amsterdam, since November 2020. She served as Chair of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) for five years, from the beginning of her EMA mandate until the end of October 2025.

So Late in the Day was published in the New Yorker and shortlisted for the British Book Awards. Keegan was awarded Woman of the Year for Literature in Ireland in '22, Author of the Year '23, the Seamus Heaney Award for Arts & Letters '24 and was presented with the Siegfried Lenz Award in Hamburg.

Foster won the Davy Byrnes Award. Small Things Like These, a New York Times Best Book of the 21st Century, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, the Rathbones Folio Prize and won the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction and The Kerry Prize for Irish Novel of the Year.

President Higgins’ friendship to NUI spans a lifetime - as a student and lecturer at University College Galway, as a member of Seanad Éireann elected on the NUI panel, and as a proud recipient of an NUI Honorary Doctorate of Laws, conferred in 2012 at Dublin Castle.
