A mature valley oak, Quercus lobata, casts a raking shadow across a verdant field of fresh grass and discarded logs. Jack 'o lantern fungus, Omphalotus olivescens, emerging from a dying oak stump with a bright, firey orange fruiting body. The mushroom is huge, bigger than a human head.
