That's a huge bummer. So sorry to hear that. Eric Carter inspired me to start writing. I doubt my work will ever see the light of day, but I sincerely hope you get the opportunity to revisit Eric, if that's something you want to do.

That's a bit misleading. They're allowing the Qatari Air Force to build a facility at an existing US Air Force Base, Mountain Home AFB. Still not ideal, but very different from allowing a sovereign nation to build an entire, separate base on US soil.

It also doesn't help that Starfleet's orders are so cartoonishly evil that any chance at an interesting or nuanced exploration of the theme is immediately jettisoned out the airlock.
