I wrote the opening for the final installment of my #ferdibert faith misplaced series ages ago but I've never put it up here so I guess that'll be today's wip wednesday!

this one's about what happens when you've experienced too much faith magic to help with refractory periods in the bedroom
Accidents, Ferdinand has come to learn, are sometimes blessings in disguise. Not that he particularly enjoys the sight of Hubert battered and bruised on the battlefield, blood trailing from a gash in his arm where the demonic beast nicked him--its claws had slashed towards Edelgard and deflected off her shield to Hubert instead--but it presents an opportunity for Ferdinand to tend to him. To funnel his Faith into the wound until it closes, to be the one in charge of ensuring his love's wellbeing. This is, after all, the primary reason Ferdinand studied Faith magic to begin with. It was only on accident that he had discovered potential, erm, bedroom uses for his spells, thanks to Hubert's, well, accidents in said bedroom. And the results that followed were undoubtedly blessings of the highest order. Even now, surrounded by clashing steel and monstrous growls-- There is a sort of serendipity in this, in the way Linhardt's protective Barrier shields them from the fray, momentarily muting the world so that nothing exists but Hubert, close and warm with light in his eyes as Ferdinand finishes his spell. "There you go," Ferdinand says, releasing Hubert's arm. Before he can step back, Hubert's newly healed arm reaches, fingers threading through the hairs at the base of Ferdinand's neck. They reel him in, and Ferdinand goes willingly, meets Hubert's kiss of gratitude and relishes in this tiny blessing too. Then Hubert growls, and his tongue pries Ferdinand's mouth apart. The kiss is wild, alive. The thrill of danger coursing through Hubert's veins, no doubt, as Ferdinand gasps, as Hubert's teeth scrape and bite like he means to devour Ferdinand whole, much like the beasts they are still fighting-- Ferdinand tears himself away. They stare at each other, panting, and Ferdinand dearly hopes Linhardt hasn't witnessed their unbecoming display. He flashes Hubert a grin. "Let us pick up from here once we've completed the rout." Hubert's eyes are all pupil when he answers, "Yes."

for this wip wednesday I present to you: sleepwalking ferdinand
When Ferdinand awoke, his first thought was, Not again. His second was, Hubert is here. Where is here? From there, any cohesive thoughts devolved into panic. He’d already startled at hearing his name called; if he swiveled around, Hubert would surely suspect foul play. Unmoored, without any bearings on his current location other than dark hallway, all he could do was stand in place as Hubert sauntered towards him and pray to the Goddess that Hubert didn’t ask too many questions. Height was an advantage that Hubert used well. Outwardly Ferdinand would argue that their height difference had shrunk dramatically over the course of the war, as Ferdinand entered his final growth spurt, but truthfully it was no less menacing to have Hubert bear down on him in this moment as it had been during their Academy days. The real difference was the way Hubert’s mouth settled into a thin line rather than a sneer—but the judgement remained all the same. “What are you doing out so late.” Despite the flat delivery, Ferdinand knew it for what it was: a demand. Hubert made many demands throughout the war, especially to his prisoners, and he had myriad ways to get whatever answers he wanted. Ferdinand often caught himself wondering what those methods entailed, just how unsavory they must be. Time was a luxury not on Ferdinand’s side, but perhaps he could turn the tides. “I could ask you the same thing,” he retorted then, staring just over Hubert’s shoulder, wishing the moonlight to give him a better clue as to which hallway they currently stood in. “Unlike you,” Hubert said, “I actually have responsibilities to carry out after-hours.” “Well,” said Ferdinand, waving what he hoped was a dismissive hand, “do not let me keep you.” Hubert caught Ferdinand’s wrist in a sharp but painless grip. “You did not answer my question,” he said with ineffable calm. His hand tingled. Hubert’s eyes searched his, two gleaming specks in the waning moonlight. There was something positively dreadful about it, and Ferdinand knew with devastating certainty that there was no lie he could possibly give that Hubert would believe. He took a deep breath, hoping Hubert couldn’t hear the tremble. “I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night,” he said. “As such, I am taking a walk.” Hubert considered this for a moment. It was the closest thing to the truth Ferdinand could muster, and the longer Hubert deliberated, the weaker Ferdinand’s knees grew. His wrist burned where Hubert gripped it. “To the library?” Hubert asked after the silence had stretched past excruciating. “You would stay up reading rather than attempt to rest?” Ferdinand’s traitorous heart leapt at the hint, the lifeline. Out the window, the clouds shifted just enough for a stream of moonlight to hit the portrait of [name], just one of many renowned scholars whose frames graced the telltale walkway to the library. Finally, his sense of self returned. He was here. He knew where here was. He had a way out. “You are right, loath as I am to admit it,” he said with a sigh. “I do not know what possessed me to come here. I will return to my chambers.” Except Hubert still hadn’t released his hand. “Hubert, what—” But the words died in his throat. Hubert squeezed around his wrist, a reflexive-like motion, then released it. Cold air washed over the sensitive skin immediately, and Ferdinand shivered. He needed to get out of here. The intensity of Hubert’s gaze was smothering, and Ferdinand was flushed hot and cold all over, and his back was to the wall—when had Hubert boxed him in? “Good night, Hubert,” said Ferdinand, and then he slid past Hubert without waiting for a response. He did not run, could not expose himself now after finally attaining freedom, but he kept his pace as brisk as he could risk it, and he did not stop until he was back in his room with the door locked behind him.

Reunited at long last, they must now learn how to heal - and part of that is apparently going to involve getting Dimitri out of his head.
