Finally writing the novels which family histories, personal experience (truck driver, TV news guy, English teacher, gov. official, tech marketeer), and travel (25 countries; 12yrs in Japan; 1970-73—Berkeley 2yrs, the South 1yr) have filled my head.

I will soon be publishing a novel based on the experiences of my father, an immigrant raised by his VERY British parents in an all-white neighborhood in LA before being drafted soon after Pearl Harbor and forced to take a crash course in “The Stuff What Actually Is” when sent to the Jim Crow South.
Mention of me and my latest novel, The Stuff What Actually Is, in the latest edition of the University of Redlands alumni magazine.

“Driven by quiet unease and its hero’s mounting discomfort with the truth about American culture, The Stuff What Actually Is is a powerful historical novel.” — Kiana Curtis

#histfic Though sometimes perhaps hard to believe, The Stuff What Actually Is--my newly published historical fiction novel--is based on events which either actually happened, or, according to verifiable research, could have happened.

Hi, Jeanne! It’s Jim Nunn. More or less finally figured out how to use Bluesky after having signed up about 5 months ago. Publishing a novel 6/2/25. It’s “The Stuff What Actually Is” a work of historical fiction based partly on some of my relatives’ experiences during WW2.

I am writing a historical novel set in the South during WW2. I have a white racist character use “N*****” a few times so the reader vicariously experiences a tiny amount of the hatred of the time and place, and for the purpose of eliciting his/her maximum sympathy for the black characters. Opinion?
