People don’t realise what we lose without the record store clerk, book store savant, or comic store geek. Their recommendations getting us to take a leap.

The algorithms are designed to program us, feeding us comfort and paid-for slop. Like Oliver Twist, refuse the gruel.
Gen V won’t be for everyone’s in it’s sophomoric goal to gross out the viewer with ever escalating outrageousness. But I do admire their ability in establishing characters you care about and understand their motivations. The show is like a putrid smelling fruit that happens to hide a delicious core.

Spotify should provide a switch to never have to listen to AI generated music in their ‘recommended songs’ or elsewhere.

Really enjoyed the movie “Honey Don’t”. The plot was iffy (the twist and pay-off were … ok) but the characters were very Cohen Brothers at their best (even if this is a Ethan-only) project.

Was wondering why Margaret Qualley looked familiar until I discovered who her mom is.

I read the Facebook employee biography‘Careless People’ by Sarah Wynn-Williams. It should have been titled ‘Cruel People’, truly harrowing. Glad it’s sold despite Facebooks efforts to suppress it

I find it curious that the US cover shows a shark fin in a pool, the UK one a woman taking the plunge

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the John Wick ‘Ballerina’ spin-off. I had faith Ana de Armas could pull it off after her Bond stint. I really enjoyed how it messed with action tropes.
Other action movies feel like you are watching someone playing ‘Call of Duty’. This one stood out. #Ballerina

Completed Andor Season 2. The first 4 episodes or so could have been a quick montage.

[mild spoilers] It picks up, but the characters dressed as the French Resistance along accents that sounded French/Dutch threw me off constantly.

I wish I had downloaded Rogue One to watch just after.

Working my way through Andor Season 2. The first episodes were brought to you by those who felt Senate debates in the prequels would attract a paying audience …
[minor spoilers] Yes go ahead, make me care about an alien wedding ritual and some agg. census while the hero is stuck. #Andor

My Superman will always be Christopher Reeve, but I did not mind the Gunn version. (Light Spoilers) The world felt lived in. Though expected Supes would have a better sense of self. Loved Milly Alcock’s cameo. Very Guardians. Looking forward to her next film in the franchise.

Started watching the new Superman. If crypto can fly, why would he arrive by running up to Superman?

In my head canon Robert Redford like the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy lives on after the freeze frame.

Finally got to see Sinners, knowing little going into it. A Southern Gothic masterpiece. The world felt real and lived in and the music is its own lead character. And what amazing photography.

Watched ‘American Primeval’. An American Western via Eli Roth, with the always amazing Bettie Gilpin playing the character you shout out at horror movies not to be so stupid. And the last episode (no spoiler) showed the writers rushing to tie up all the lose ends after dragging their feet.

Sorry to hear about Michael Madsen. Tarantino used him in 5 movies (I am counting both Kill Bills separately) . Reservoir Dogs is in my top 10. #RIP

Just rewatched "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", my favourite western. Did not realize in previous watching how much of an anti-war movie it is.

The Accountant 2 is fun actioner, but it has more in common with the Bourne Series than with the quirky, twist-filled and original Accountant 2. Feels like the late streaming era is sparking generic sequel-itis.

„California Über Alles“ by the Dead Kennedys (or The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy) hitting harder than usual right now.

The Guy Ritchie #Mobland finale felt felt like an episode long ‘Lord of the Rings’ denouement. “Let’s wrap up ALL threads” in case we don’t get renewed. And let’s leave one thread in case we do. All in, more of a story plank than an arc. Still don’t understand Brosnan’s acting choices.

The Hacks season finale (no spoiler) was clearly a travel junket to give the leads a nice tropical and exotic reward. The plot for the season was to contrived: let’s have the friendship earned over 3 seasons mean nothing, then suddenly everything.

Someone at Paramount should explain why they stream on Paramount+ the excellent ‘The Offer’ about how Paramount made ‘The Godfather’ only for Paramount+ (or anyone) not to stream the darn movie!

TIL that the song 'Voices Carry' by 'Til Tuesday was apparently originally about two women util the band had to bow to record pressure. They played the song live yesterday in Pasadena's #CruelWorld after a 33 year hiatus of playing live. 😍Aimee Mann

I really enjoyed “A small Favour” with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. “Another Small Favour”. I am sure they enjoyed filming in Capri, and the setting is stunning. But what a boring movie. It was like watching someone else’s holiday slides (remember those?). The script seems written by AI.

The Discovery purchase made no sense to me. But the rebranding and dropping of HBO made even less sense. The home of the Sopranos. A bit like ‘New Coke’. Hope the marketeers changing for change sake were appropriately admonished. The spinning HBO logo and chime lives rent free in my head.

“The Last Dinner Party” really throws off some real ABBA vibes (ex. the, ehem, lyrics). Love ‘em

Saddened to read James Foley director of the stunning “Glengarry Glen Ross” has passed away. That is one movie worth revisiting every so often. If you ever sell for a living (don't we all in one way or another) this one is up there. He did Mamet a great turn.
