I've decided to present a research paper on Toni Morrison's Sula this December. After this, I will have discussed all of Morrison's works with just three more novels. Once that's done, I want to start moving toward publishing a monograph on Morrison.

I submitted a paper to some journal and waited two years. The result was a suggestion to submit to a different journal because the reviewer was out of contact. I've been told that this kind of thing happens sometimes, but is that true?

As the semester ends, I reflect on studying Carson McCullers' "The Ballad of the Sad Café." It was hard for Japanese students to read the original, but a final comment-"Literature is interesting!" —showed the value of the struggle. Overcoming such challenges is truly rewarding.

Presenting at the MELUS annual conference proved to be a remarkably enriching experience. As my inaugural presentation in the United States, there were moments of initial disorientation; however, the comprehensive support provided ensured a successful completion.

The 39th annual MELUS conference is just a few days away. This is my first visit to Los Angeles. My schedule is quite tight, but I'll try to find time to visit the California African American Museum.

My seminar this year will engage with Toni Morrison's short story, "Recitatif." Despite its brevity, I contend that its nuanced complexities offer fertile ground for student learning through close reading.

"Five and a half years after [Toni] Morrison’s death, it’s apparent that, while Dreaming Emmett continues to be little known even among ardent fans of her work, the play is not merely a biographical curio." -- Elon Green via @vulture.com
