Some potential candidates for an extra spot in the game are as follows:

As for potential roster changes, the league will need to replace Giannis Antetokounmpo due to an injury. Devin Booker's status for the ASG is currently unknown as well. All decisions on new players added to the game are made by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver (8).

Avdija became the first Israeli in league history to be an all-star. As for Powell, an 11 year veteran, he is now the fourth oldest player at 32 years old to ever make a first ASG. Murray, a longtime star and former champion, will play alongside his teammate Nikola Jokic on Team World (7).

On this year's rosters, six players were named to their first career all-star team. Those players are:

Deni Avdija
Jalen Duren
Chet Holmgren
Jalen Johnson
Jamal Murray
Norman Powell

James, 41, missed about the first month of the season with injury. He has played very well since returning, but there were questions about whether he would be named an all-star. Kevin Durant is another big name on the west team, and this will be his 16th all-star appearance, 4th most all-time (4).

A notable inclusion on the west roster is LeBron James as a reserve. This is James' 22nd straight season as an all-star, most all time, but this is the first time ever he was not voted in as a starter. He has been an all-star in every one of his 23 seasons, besides his rookie year in 2004 (3).

The three teams will play a round-robin style tournament at first and then a championship game will take place at the end between the two squads with the best records. This USA vs. World format is a new format for the NBA in its all-star game, in an attempt to revive the event this year (2).

As a lifelong fan of this team, I hope Glenn brings in the right coaches to lead this organization forward to better days, but like most of the fanbase, I am not very confident. I would not be surprised if the team is looking for new head coach next January, following another losing season (11).

Considering the Jets' 15 year playoff drought and reputation as a chaotic franchise, that may prove difficult. Hughes already reported that two top defensive coordinator candidates told the team they were not interested in the job and did not want to be interviewed (10).
January 25, 2026 at 6:16 PM
To this point, Glenn has not shown an ability to hire a high-level staff considering all these changes, including at two of the three coordinator positions. How he rebounds and builds out his next staff is going to be vital for his long-term success (9).
January 25, 2026 at 6:16 PM
In my opinion, none of these changes are a good look for Glenn, who led the Jets to just its third 14+ loss season in franchise history in his first year as head coach. Many in the fanbase have called for him to be fired already, and there is significant pressure to win next year (8).

There are also questions about the future of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, whose role appears to still be unknown. According to Hughes, Engstrand may not remain as the playcaller and an older person, such as former Colts' head coach Frank Reich, may come in to take that job (6).

At the moment, the team has interviewed eight candidates virtually for the vacant defensive coordinator position.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, the team has scheduled an in-person, second-round interview with veteran coach Wink Martindale, who appears to be the favorite for the role (4).
January 25, 2026 at 6:16 PM
None of this comes as a major surprise following a 3-14 season in which the team lost its last 5 games by more than 20 points each, but is notable considering the sheer number of firings. This news follows the decision to fire Steve Wilks from his defensive coordinator position in December (3).

The coaches being let go are as follows:
- Charles London (QBs)
- Scott Turner (pass game coordinator),
- Aaron Curry (LBs)
- Eric Washington (DLine)
- Dre Bly (Assistant DBs)
- Alonso Escalante (defensive assistant)
- Roosevelt Williams (defensive assistant)

A lot of questions remain as spring training approaches, but at least with Bichette in the fold, the offense seems far more complete. Mets fans can take solace in this signing, because there has not been much else to cheer about with the rough 2025 and mostly tumultuous offseason #JMC602 (11).

The first two cannot go back to the minors, so they are either in the big leagues or sent elsewhere. How they would get consistent playing time here is anyone's guess. Mauricio has an option year remaining, but there is no open position for him now. Maybe one or more of them get dealt (10).
January 19, 2026 at 6:29 PM
He could possibly be a sell-high trade candidate also, but I would prefer to keep Baty around and let him continue to develop. As for the others (Mark Vientos, Luis Acuna and Ronny Mauricio) I am very unsure about their roles going foward (9).
January 19, 2026 at 6:29 PM
My final takeaway is in regards to what happens with Brett Baty and the other young infielders on this team. Baty looked like a cornerstone player at 3B last year, but with that position now occupied by Bichette, I am curious about what he could do in a utility role around the IF and maybe LF (8).
January 19, 2026 at 6:29 PM
He is elite with defense and speed and I think could be a bounceback candidate offensively on a better team. After Bellinger and Robert Jr., the options are less exciting, as I really do not care much for Lars Nootbaar, Jake Meyers and some of the others names Sammon discussed (7).
