By eliminating the need for specialized tongue and lip motion tracking equipment, this line of research might someday make speech kinematic tools available in everyday clinical settings and improve clinical assessment and treatment for children with speech sound disorders.

This project completes foundational work for a speech inversion neural network for children. Speech inversion would allow clinicians to can “see” how a child moves their lips and tongue, obtaining this information from audio recordings alone.
