This is the fucking Prussian constitutional crisis. If you let them fund the military without Congressional authorization you've just given up on constitutional government. Congress is a dead letter.

The good old American value of freedom is an accurate and appealing counter.

It captures just about everything:
-troops in US cities bad because freedom
-ICE violating rights bad because freedom
-let trans people be themselves because freedom
-don't censor To Kill a Mockingbird because freedom
etc.
