UNBEATABLE
A screenshot of my Tumblr review of UNBEATABLE. The review says the following: Rating: 10/10 Played on: Steam Deck I started off this year with a HIGH bar for other games to try and cross. UNBEATABLE is one of my new favorite games of all time. Since learning about it and playing the demo a few months ago, I knew it was going to be good, but this game exceeded all expectations. "Music is illegal and you do crimes" may be the most effective tagline for a video game ever. I was sold immediately on premise alone, but the Trigger-style anime cutscenes, fantastically bold character designs, a banger punk rock soundtrack, and fun, dynamic rhythm gameplay were all added layers of sellability for me. All of these aspects were present throughout my playthrough, alongside an emotional story, a sense of humor perfectly aligned with my own, and powerfully shocking twists, story and gameplay-wise. You basically get two games in one here. First, there's beefy 10-15 hour story mode with charming and lovable characters, a complex and emotional story, cute little minigames and different gameplay styles, and a BOP of a soundtrack, with plenty of variety. Then, when you're ready to sink your teeth into the rhythm game itself, there's a whole arcade mode with a massive amount of content. Charts for 5-6 difficulties on each song, a whole host of remixes and guest tracks, and over a hundred achievements and tasks for exploring every aspect of the game. I've barely scratched the surface of this mode, and will be continuing to play it for a while yet, I'm sure, as the rhythm gameplay is addicting and incredibly satisfying to get good at. The game isn't perfect, by any means, with the story mode especially being a bit buggy. Softlocks are fairly common, and every so often a spike of lag with disrupt your rhythm, ruining a combo. I even had a few instances where a song would start but the camera was not in the correct place so I couldn't see my character or the notes, and just failed and had to restart. If I'm being honest though, it didn't really detract from my overall experience. If anything, it feels fitting? I mean, the game is punk rock, has you punching cops and doing crimes, has themes of identity struggles and resistance. None of that is supposed to be smooth sailing, right? So honestly, it feels like the game not being perfectly smooth and polished is right on theme. I encourage anyone to give this game a shot. You don't have to be good at rhythm games to enjoy the story, there are many difficulty options to tailor your experience, and you get to punch cops. What more can you ask for?

as requested from the devs, i have finished the story mode for unbeatable on new years day. what a good video game. will be writing my review of it eventually, am certainly not done playing it. i mean, its called unbeatable after all

Finally decided to devote myself to some GOTY front runners this past week; I made it to Chronos for the first time in Hades II yesterday and beat Act I of Clair Obscur this evening. Good ass games, glad they’ve been getting the recognition they deserve

Can’t wait to review Galaxy 1 and 2 Switch ports, 2 especially is real bad. No Banktoad, weird graphical issues, and it even just crashed on me. They really botched these ports, and demanding $70 for them is insane

Wanna feel old? Galaxy 2 is older now than Mario 64 was when Galaxy 2 came out. (2010-1996=14, 2025-2010=15)

This means that a reference to Galaxy 2 in a modern Mario game would be more of a throwback than the Whomp’s Fortress cameo in Throwback Galaxy was when the game came out.

Review coming… eventually, but I am done with Hundred Line. After 50+ hours of searching for anything good in this game, I only grew to hate it more and more. The cult of takumi route finally has broken me, I will not be supporting Kodaka’s future endeavors and regret buying and playing this game.
