Tax the rich, close the loopholes, hike the capital gains tax, remove the social security tax cap, enact a minimal wealth tax, and increase the corporate tax rate. Jail the owners using immigrants for slave labor. Tax the billionaires like it's 1950.

Accountability would be personal rather than allowing people to hide behind party brands.

Yes. Maybe we need to remove parties from the system—teams. Might make legislation more difficult initially, but it would encourage coalition building around issues rather than party. Lawmakers could vote using their own judgement to serve their constituents.

I think we're on the same page. I agree we need to dispose of the machine and build something better. Along with enormous effort, I think language can also play an important role in that. How refreshing it would be if our leaders didn't talk like children with poor influences.

True. But, do we need a fight? Can we remember our brief shared existence and help some of those voters on the other side see what we see? Otherwise, we'll always be doing this. Hopefully, never as bad again but history says otherwise.
