I always hate talking about this because people transform it into “antiship vs proship” discourse and not acknowledging that a lot of people are just very spiteful and puritanical and will gladly lie to hurt you. Because you’re not making the kind of art THEY want.

You're constantly teteering on the edge of having enough reach to pay the bills, but also not having enough reach where it can offend the wrong people. Technically anything you could be doing could be illegal in some context, so it's easy to report, or make a claim.

Frankly this is not just isolated to erotica and NSFW artists, but all creators. The amount of vitriol you get if something 'blows' up in the wrong way is frankly difficult to deal with and has lasting consequences for your mental health.

And I say this as an erotica artist who's work focuses on consent, LGBT characters and body positivity. There are things people accuse me of that I just can't engage with because my income stream depends on that knife-edge.
