Democrats also have a bad habit of thinking they can convince moderate Republicans to vote democrat instead of taking progressive policy which is significantly more popular, but isn't good for corporations and ultra wealthy people, i.e. the main donors for their campaigns.

I don't think we have an option but to wander in the desert for a bit. It's the chicken or the egg. How are you going to get progressives in office to make these changes? By first getting someone in office who can make some of these changes and show they are different.
