Little clay creature with big feet and arms crossed. It's mostly a blotchy brown and the creature has red toenails and an arm tattoo that says MOM. It's looking to the left and seems crabby. It's on a mottled brown wood with some sunlight in the background.

Little gnome incense burners and toothy salt caves (with tongue spoon!) are coming along!

Weather apps suck? Go to the source: Weather.gov >look up your zip>Forecast Discussion! It's technical but comes from a real live local meteorologist AND these nerds, especially the night shift, get punchy so can be a real hoot. I once read a haiku forecast about rain but sadly no screenshot.

A wooden board holds 11 grey clay objects. One on the left is a straight sided large jar with a lid. Then there are 9 are much smaller round topped jars with faces sculpted onto the outside so that the mouth aligns with the lid opening. There is a old man looking one with thick lips and large saggy eyebrows. In front another has indented eyes and a dopey look. To the right of that is another even dopier looking one with more eye brows and bulging eyes. In the front right the smallest has almost no lips but a very large nose. Behind that there's one with just an eye that is slightly unfinished. To the left of that is a naughty looking one with a smirk. To the left of that has just a mouth with very supple lips. Behind there's one with a large brown mustache made of a different clay. To the right of that is a creature that almost looks frog like with wide eyes, nipples and small hands. Lastly in the way back is a container with a large hole carved away with teeth carved into the edge so it looks like a mouth. Plastic sheeting surrounds them from behind.

Pottery progress today on my weird little jar buddies. Porcelain teeth continue to be highly entertaining.
A small grey cylinder of clay is carved with teeth about a third down and toes at the bottom. The teeth and toe nails are white and there is a small belly button above the feet. It sits on a tan surface.

Friday night pottery studio time was a good call. This is the roughest of rough drafts but still cracking me up. Can't wait to get some porcelain slip on refined teeth to take the creep factor up a notch. Tooth line is the jar lid line so top but will lift off.
A small clay jar with a grinning face full of teeth. The clay is still wet and the teeth are somewhat jagged. The tooth line is the line of the jar lid so the top of the face with nose and eyes will come off. The bottom of the jar has slight shapes of a belly and boobs/pecs. It also has little arms with hands out as it to say Tah-dah! The whole thing is on a metal surface smeared with clay and a metal needle tool lays in the foreground.

I think the most incredible thing to me about the Ruth Asawa show at SF MoMA wasn't the famed wire work (which is still so fucking cool and impressive) but the awe inspiring confidence and clarity in her drawing and paintings. So crisp and clean and controlled but still whimsical.

The oyster is slightly darker and heavier just left/low of the center middle while the flowers are light unfilled outlines kind of sprawling out and up from the shell. A wide long painting in a white frame with paper that has been warped/wrinkled by the watercolor of two large, long watermelons. The paper is slightly off white, similar to the wall behind it and the frame is bright white. The water lemons are laying lengthwise with one behind the other. The are a striped mix of tan and deep warm green that accurately depicts the look of ripe summer melons chaotic stripes. A woven wire sculpture hangs in front of a white wall casting a double shadow of it's shape. The wire has been meticulously woven to create a shape that starts from the top in a globe and then transitions as it goes down into a pointed funnel facing downwards. Interlocking tubes of woven wire continue in one column with an alternating mix of round/elongated orbs and sharp funnels hanging in one long series.

A good day getting these out of the kiln. Little jar friends and a bird bath with landing stick for the wee ones. Now, if only the birds would get excited about my pottery as I am.

My partner and I took our 20 year old niece to Montreal. We all agreed that our favorite part was the Insectarium.
