Former West Virginian, lifetime Mountaineer. I read and listen to books, run, and lots of other stuff for fun. Something of a technological platypus for work.
This was going to be my answer, too.

You know the dream where you show up for the final and know NONE of the answers to questions. I did that, because I showed up 2 hours early for my Geology final. It was a Geology final, just a much higher level, not my class. I figured it out when I looked up and it was not my teacher at the front.

I used to think that way, but I would rather be remembered and an amusing curmudgeon than an asshole. Somewhere in the neighborhood of Harrison Ford being during most interviews.

Hence, I try to adhere to Scalzi’s Law.

Sadly, I think, I have a few more years before curmudgeon can be applied.

This is fantastic advice. I’ve also started to allow the time between an assholic phrase forming in my brain and coming out of my mouth lengthen. That way, I have time to go through these options.

I’ve been trying very hard to not be an asshole as I get older. Often, that just means keeping my mouth shut and nodding along.

Eh, it’s fine. Whatever.

I know you’ve said you don’t think you should perform your own audiobooks, but this was a delight. Maybe occasional short stories.

From a business perspective, I see the reasons for dropping MMPBs. But, some of my favorite authors weren’t initially published in hardcover or trade. They made their mark in MMPB. And I found them browsing a bookstore, not a digital marketplace.

This makes me fear (even more) for new writers.

Ebooks have gotten so expensive for many books, as well. A few authors I’ve come to love, I bought a cheap MM to give them a try, often at used bookstore.

This makes me sad. Both as a former bookseller, and as a reader who thinks the lower price point and easily carried size made it more accessible to some people. It was also cheap enough to buy something you just liked the cover and synopsis of. Ebooks, just don’t scratch that itch.

Sadly, that’s accurate.

Mad Mex, a restaurant in Pittsburgh, has a Gobblerito every fall. It’s really good. They occasionally bring it back during other season, but this is a very similar recipe.

I haven’t tried unlimited yet bc:
1. 2 kids = little time
2. Little time = low ROI on a subscription
3. I read physical books faster and like the act of reading them
(Caveat, I like the convenience of ebooks for reading anywhere)
4. The books I was interested in weren’t there

Maybe that’s changing.
