Husband sent this photo this morning from Kohatu where he is now working. This is normally a road.

We walked to the kumaras and there were many apple boxes and apples all over the beach and floating in the water. I'm sure some will end up in other parts of the motu. This poor cow was very lucky. Hopefully she was able to cross when tide went out.

Husband and I walked to the bridge yesterday so he could take some photos and teach me some stuff. The stop bank here shows the line of how close it came to the top. The top of stop banks are built to exact height using GPS so that if the river overflows it won't erode one spot and cause failure.

Laying on a blanket is a Whittaker's Dark Salted Caramel Chocolate block, a book by Marge Pierce called Woman on the Edge of Time, and some rocks beautifully painted with intricate depictions of classic book covers but the titles are puns on rocks like "The Handmaid's Topaz" and "Anne of Green Granite".

I just spent the last two hours reading the end of Poorhara and crying my eyes out. It's a beautiful and difficult read. It scrapes at trauma you hold while making you reckon with how that sometimes makes you harsher than you want to be. It left me wanting to read more about Erin.

Just finished this book and the subtitle might be "A story of bravery" but it's also told in an unflinching, honest, and vulnerable way. This book is so authentic and an important voice in Aotearoa LGBTQ+ history. I hope it wins tonight.
