I am told these numbers next to the name of the station are for dispatch of emergency services. So it's a specialized code that 1st responders know but the public needs to find in situ during something urgent. Sounds way less safe to me.

I just got off Delta FLt 2380 from Sea to Lax. We were waved off at the very last second. It was terrifying. The hard banking felt like the plane was turning upside down.
