Personally speaking, the dogged, passionate way I obsessed over my juvenile desires has gone at 35. I still desire to achieve things but in a much more measured way. The blind, single-minded pursuit of doing whatever you feel like is far more pronounced in those with youth.

Whatever our views (societally) are on age, the diminishing likelihood of successful procreation with each passing year, keeps us honest.
46 is young, for winning a Nobel prize, or being prime minister, but, it's too old to start a family, irrespective of how you (or society) feels about it.
